A
long time ago Pablo leased five acres of land. Pablo
and his family (Florencia-his wife, Juan (JP)-his eldest
son, Maickey- his younger son, and Cristina-his daughter)
grew and harvested raspberries and flowers. Unfortunately-
a water pump that supplied the water to Pablo and was
shared with other farmers broke. Nobody had the means
to fix it and the dreams of Pablo and his family had
to be put on pause.
Eventually Juan (JP) attended college at California
State University Monterey Bay (CSUMB) where he majored
in Earth Systems and Science Policy with a concentration
in Science and Social Justice. He learned the harmful
effects of chemicals and pesticides on the environment,
on health, and on people. Through internships and the
things he learned he decided to take a course with Programa
Educativo Para Pequeños Agricultores (PEPA) at
the Agriculture and Land Based Training Association
(ALBA) in Salinas with his father. Through that program
they got the opportunity to learn about the benefits
of growing organic veggies and fruits and they leased
some land.
Now- JP delivers Community Supported Agriculture boxes,
he delivers produce to restaurants, he delivers to super
markets and he does some Farmers Markets.
It is really nice to come home after a days work and
not smell like pesticides or chemicals. It is especially
nice to work side by side with your family. It is super
nice to know that we are helping the environment and
the health of people. That is why we think that at J
& P Organics we grow the friendliest produce.
